Dessert (287 of 365)

365_Dessert[2009]
These are pecan tarts. I made them as one of several desserts for a Christmas dinner my Mom was hosting. Since I had to head back to Atlanta before the dinner took place, I didn't even get to taste them! I hope they were good!

What's On Your Christmas List?

I spotted something online today that I want for Christmas.

It's a trunk full of gourmet chocolates!!

Okay, so it's not the most practical gift, but check out all the yummy stuff that's included: 500 (!) pieces of chocolate ganache, five pounds of chocolate bark and croquettes, eighty ounces of Aztec hot chocolate in four tins, a twenty-ounce tin of Aztec Iced Chocolate, eight Aztec Hot Chocolate Bars, a teapot and infuser, two china teacups, a leather-bound journal and a small library of books on chocolate.

One might wonder as to the price of this extravagant gift. It's a special order piece which must be purchased in person for the low, low price of . . . $15,000.00! Don't forget, the trunk can be filled with personal items once you've made it through all those delicious morsels!

Fifteen grand. Isn't that crazy? I'd like to know how many of these Marie Belle actually sells. I'd also like a little bit of that chocolate!

Candy (240 of 365)

Candied apples on sale at Kilwin's. Don't they look yummy? I think the apple covered in gummies is too cute. My friend and I ended up choosing other things. Chocolate-peanut butter fudge for him and chocolate covered marshmallows for me. Yum!

Sunday Six: Week 39

This week I have a Recap Six. As usual, nothing terribly exciting, but hopefully there's something yummy!

But first, here's a view of what we've been dealing with here in Atlanta -- torrential downpours. It has rained the entire week!

SS39_Rainy_Roswell[2009]

SS39_Rainy_Mess[2009]

This morning when I came back from the grocery store I noticed this:
SS39_Hot_Pink_Cornhole[2009]
It's a hot pink cornhole game! How fun is that? Evidently, my neighbors have been playing.

Now on to the yumminess . . .

SS38_Yummy_Chicken[2009]
Tonight, I'm having my first dinner guest at my new place! We're having roast chicken.

SS39_Stuffing[2009]
I stuffed the chicken with all of this: lemon slices, garlic, basil, oregano, and rosemary. Here's hoping it turns out yummy!

SS38_Lemon[2009]
Finally, a close up shot of my lemon slices.

Until next week . . .

Sunday Six: Week 38

I have a Recap Six this week, all from a weekend spent with family in North Carolina. We had a good time laughing, visiting and eating way too much good food!

SS38_Caprese[2009]
This was my contribution to Saturday night's Italian dinner. It's a caprese pasta salad and it turned out pretty well, I think.

On Saturday morning, a large group of us went adventuring through the mountains. The remaining pictures are a few of the things that caught my eye while we were hiking.

Sunday Six: Week 35

This week is a Recap Six from the weekend.

SS35_Ikea_Frames[2009]
Yesterday I went shopping with some family members who came into Atlanta. We stopped at Ikea first. I am trying to plan out an area to hang a group of my photos in my new place and I really like this arrangement of frames.

SS35_Atlantic_Station[2009]
After Ikea and a few other stores we headed out of Midtown and to the Perimeter Mall area. This is a drive-by shot of Atlantic Station.

SS35_Yummy_Fruit[2009[
One of the things I had to do today was hit the grocery store. I picked up these strawberries and blueberries which will be perfect for my breakfast!

SS35_Watermelon[2009]
I also bought a little seedless watermelon in order to try a new recipe I found.

SS35_sparklies[2009]
Neither Whole Foods or Kroger had popsicle sticks, so I was stuck buying these sparkly cocktail stirs for my watermelon cubes.

SS35_Watermelon_Cubes[2009]
The final product. Watermelon cubes. They're pretty yummy. Although, I think next time I'll add a little more sugar and a little less mint and lemon zest.

Until next week . . .

Sunday Six: Week 25

Okay, this week I have a Recap Six, and technically, it's probably not a true Sunday Six, because some of these were taken last Sunday. However, I have been completely slammed with the purchase of my loft and was only able to take a couple of pictures this weekend. I don't think anyone will mind since I think I'm the only one left doing Sunday Six at this point. :)

Swan_Fountain[2009]
Up first is a shot of the fountain at the Swan House in Atlanta. I have pictures of the actual house coming up in a few days. It's beautiful!

Swan_Garden_Statues_full[2009]

Swan_Men_Statue[2009]
I love how these old statues have such variations in the markings of the stone.

Hydrangea[2009]
Pretty hydrangea.

A shot of my frosty Stella Artois from dinner last night.

SS_25_Cheap_Gas[2009]
We had dinner last night a pizza place that is housed in what used to be a gas station and body shop. This pump is one of the original pumps that was used by the station when it opened in the early 1950s. Notice how the price is set at $.25/gallon and that the price will only go as far as $9.99!

Okay folks, I'm beat! Hopefully next week I have more interesting shots for you! :)

Sunday Six: Week 20

So, this week I have a recap Six, but I had a very difficult time deciding what pictures to post. Mostly this is because I took about 300 photos yesterday. Having lots of photos on hand does not mix well with indecisiveness. As most of my friends know, I'm indecisive. *lol*

So, here we go!

Moore_9[2009]
First up we have a sculpture by Henry Moore called "Goslar Warrior". Most of Moore sculptures are bronze, and this one was created in 1973-1974. This sculpture is part of the "Moore in America" exhibition at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

ABG_pink_macro5[2009]
A nice, pink flower. This was taken just after a fairly heavy rain shower.

ABG_Mother&Child[2009]
Another Moore sculpture, this one is called "Reclining Draped Mother and Baby."

ABG_LilyPads[2009]
Lily pads floating in the lily pond at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Atlanta_Braves[2009]
Saturday night I found myself at the Braves v. Diamondbacks game. Too bad the Braves lost 12-0. Our starting pitcher, and the bullpen, were throwing horribly! This is the Braves sign which sits in center field.

Nutella_Burnt_Marshmallow_Shake[2009]
My weekend ended with a trip to Flip Burger Boutique, a restaurant opened up by former "Top Chef" contestant Richard Blais. These are Nutella and Burnt Marshmallow milkshakes. They were great!

Sort of a mish-mash of photos, but that's okay. At least I finally decided which ones to use! :)

Baked Goods (12 of 365)

brownies[2009]

First, I so did not make these. These are two bite brownies that I picked up at the grocery store this week. I was craving brownies, but did not want to actually make them!

What's For Dinner? (11 of 365)

flip_blais[2009]

Flip! Flip is the new restaurant of Atlanta's "Top Chef" Richard Blais. It features funky burgers and molecular milkshakes, including a Nutella milkshake! Yum! Allison doesn't know it yet, but the next time she visits we are so eating here.

Skeletal (9 of 365)

Bone_Garden[2009]

This funky skeleton statue sits at the entrance to the Lumberyard Lofts in one of Atlanta's industrial areas. The statue is also the sign for Bone Garden Cantina. It's owned by the same folks who run the Vortex (winner of several best burger in Atlanta awards). The food was pretty good, the margaritas were great!

Groceries (7 of 365)

Plain ol' groceries. Although I do have everything needed for a yummy chicken sofrito. I'll probably have pictures of that later on in the week.

Sunday Six: Week 1

Photobucket

I had a visitor over New Year's. Not only did she bring yummy pastries and a cupcake, but she also brought me a box of Jer's Bars. They're really good! Peanut butter and caramel covered in chocolate. What could go wrong with that?

Photobucket

When I opened my blinds this morning I saw these little berries outside my bedroom window. It rained overnight and they still had little drops of water on them. It's not perfectly in focus, but I was using my macro lens and I haven't quite worked out its focus areas yet.

Photobucket

This is my attempt to recreate a similar photo I saw online yesterday. I've always thought water shots like this were really neat.

Photobucket

This is where we had dinner New Year's Eve - Craft. It was so yummy. Allison ordered squash and sage tortelloni's that were amazing! We both had fish as a main course (swordfish and striped bass) and shared roasted fingerling potatoes and sunchokes. For dessert, oh my goodness, dessert - Brown Sugar-Crème Fraîche Cake with Ruby Red Grapefruit & Brown Sugar Ice Cream and Valrhona Chocolate Cake with Almond Toffee & Malt Ice Cream. Seriously, the chocolate cake is without a doubt THE greatest chocolate cake I have ever eaten.

Photobucket

Another souvenir from dinner at Craft - a bag of granola.

Photobucket

Every time I've been in New York I've seen people walking around with these styrofoam coffee cups. I've seen them in tv shows and movies quite a bit, too. This one is actually ceramic and I love it!
