Rural (260 of 365)

365_Rural[2009]
Cows are frequent sights in rural areas. These cows happen to live across the street from where I grew up. I think they're cute.

Sunday Six: Week 47

This week's Sunday Six is a Recap Six. We drove about an hour south of Atlanta yesterday to visit Wild Animal Safari. It was fun and sad at the same time.

SS47_WAS1
North American Elk.

SS47_WAS2
White Tailed Deer.

SS47_WAS3
Isn't she pretty?

I wanted to scoop this little guy up and take him home with me! Look at that face!

Until next week . . .

Talk about risk, care to hop in front of this guy? No, thanks!

Boy (66 of 365)

365_Xi_Lan_Boy[2009]

Xi Lan is such a cutie! This growing boy likes to climb!

One side note, less than 300 photos to go in the challenge! This is number 66, only 299 to go. ;)

Finally, today is the final day to help me decide where I'm exploring tomorrow. If you haven't voted, head here to do so. Thank you!

Up On Top (64 of 365)

This orangutan likes to be up above everyone else! He must have pretty good balance to sit all the way up there.

Kids These Days (62 of 365)

365_Xi_Lan_Kids_These_Days[2009]

This is Xi Lan (shee-lahn). He's Zoo Atlanta's most recent giant panda cub. Xi is 6 months old and has just now learned to climb. Currently, the climbing structure is his favorite place to be whether he's sleeping or awake.

Silly (61 of 365)

365_Silly_Dumadi[2009]

This is Dumadi, Zoo Atlanta's baby orangutan! He's really quirky and cute. Here, he's making the most out of a paper bag.

Black & White (57 of 365)

365_Mei_Black_White[2009]
This is Mei Lan. Mei is nearly 2 1/2 and was born at Zoo Atlanta. Isn't she beautiful?!

Zoo Atlanta works with the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, along with several other U.S. zoos (the National Zoo, San Diego Zoo, and the Memphis Zoo) in the hopes of restoring some of the giant panda population. Currently, it's estimated there are approximately 1,600 giant pandas in the wild.

Sunday Six: Week 8

This week is a Recap Six, all from Saturday - and all animals.

SS_Dripping[2009]
A drippy Canada Goose.

SS_Yang_Yang[2009]
Yang Yang, from Zoo Atlanta. This picture makes Yang look pretty mean. He's actually a very goofy giant panda.

SS_Xi_Lan_Naps[2009]
Yang Yang's second born, little Xi Lan. Here, he's wedged himself into a climbing structure for a long nap.

SS_Gorilla_Pose[2009]
Zoo Atlanta has four baby gorillas: Kali and Kazi (twins), Macy B, and Gunther. I have no clue which of the four is posing for this picture, but it sure is cute!

SS_Baby_Gorilla[2009]
Snack time at the gorilla enclosure! This little gorilla in the center is doing its best to get some attention by beating its chest.

SS_Caiman_Lizard[2009]
Finally, from the Reptile House, a Caiman Lizard.

366 Pictures: #322 Portrait

Photobucket

One of the orangutans at Zoo Atlanta. We hardly saw the orangutans at all when we were at the zoo. I saw this one, and later I saw Dumadi, the baby, for just a quick second or two.

366 Pictures: #145 Family

This is a family of Asian small-clawed otters. They're an endangered species. Like most intelligent species, the female is the dominant partner.

366 Pictures: #186 Touching

Photobucket

This is one of the four baby gorillas at Zoo Atlanta. I'm not sure which of the four I snapped. I thought this was a sweet picture. Not long after I took it, the baby rolled over and began playing drums on the belly of the older gorilla. It was pretty cute!

366 Pictures: #39 Body

Photobucket

This is Ivan. Ivan is one of the silverback gorillas living at Zoo Atlanta. Here, Ivan is inspecting something he's taken off his body, specifically, out of his nose. Random fact: Did you know that gorillas have individual fingerprints? They do!

366 Pictures: 29 Challenge

Okay, this is a series of photos which need an explanation. The chimpanzee exhibit at the Baltimore Zoo has a fairly young chimp. The afternoon we visited, this little chimp was determined to climb up a rope and climb across a limb. Unfortunately, he fell from the limb every single time. It was too cute. This series features his climb up the robe, maneuvering on the limb, and finally, the very tail end of his fall.

366 Pictures: #341 Go Wild

This giraffe looks like he's angry, thus the theme. However, he's actually just chewing on some grass. Isn't he cute?

366 Pictures: #273 Wrinkles

Photobucket

This is Samson. He's a 520 lb. baby elephant who lives at the Baltimore Zoo. Samson was born March 19, 2008, and weighed 285 lbs. One of the things I love about elephants is their many wrinkles. They're adorable.

366 Pictures: #348 Distorted

This picture was a total accident, but I'm quite happy with how it turned out. This is a little lemur at the Baltimore zoo.
