I'm in the process of watermarking another 20 photos taken today for 366. This means I only have 14 themes left to go!! I have a fairly good idea of what I'm doing for about half of those that are left. I should be posting them over the course of the next few days. A couple I have planned for New Year's Eve, so those will be posted around the first of January.
I'm excited that I've almost completed the challenge, but I'm also sad that it's ending. I'm currently trying to figure out if/what I'm going to do for 2009.

This house is located below where my Dad lives. Their decorations grow every year. They've definitely surpassed Clark Griswold. :) There's a mill with a waterfall on the other side of the house and Christmas carols playing over a radio frequency. The rainy weather prevented them from having a train ride which they'd scheduled.
I cannot begin to imagine what their electric bill runs this time of year. However, I do know that many of their neighbors donate money to assist them in paying it.

You may have heard about the coal ash spill in Roane County, Tennessee. It's actually fairly close to where I grew up. In fact, I spent Christmas Eve afternoon at a home less than a mile from the steam plant where failed retention pond was located. Twelve homes were flooded, one of which was knocked completely off its foundation. The whole area is in bad shape and covered in ashy sludge.
Signs like this were posted in and around the area. They're definitely going to need some magic in order for the area to be cleaned up from this mess.

This isn't the greatest picture, but I loved this picture for collage. This bus seat was part of an exhibition called "Seats for Social Justice: A Rosa Parks Commemorative Project" for which bus seats were designed by volunteers for Hands on Atlanta. This seat is on display at the Martin Luther King, Jr. historic site.

Unfortunately, I missed last week's mutterings, but I'm back on track!

I snapped this photo as I was headed back to the office after an afternoon hearing downtown. This is from the top of one of the parking garages overlooking Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Central Avenue. The Georgia Capital is in the far left corner. The church in the foreground is The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
The church was the first Catholic church in Atlanta and the building is one of the oldest in downtown. The church also houses St. Francis Table, a weekly soup kitchen which has operated for over 20 years.

I was playing with my camera during my drive into downtown last night. This is just coming into downtown. While it's not the best picture, I really like the lights from the buildings and the other cars on the Connector. And, just in case you're not making the connection . . . lights, electricity, power.

Atlanta has great history all around the city. One of the places I'd never visited was the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site. It includes a museum with great exhibits, the birth home of Dr. King, Ebenezer Baptist Church, as well as Dr. King and Coretta Scott King's final resting place. One of the current exhibits is called "Memphis to Atlanta" which is a photographic chronicle of Dr. King's last days through his funeral in Atlanta.
