366 Pictures: #38 Such Great Heights . . .

Photobucket

All day today was very cloudy and overcast in Atlanta. This picture was taken from the middle of Centennial Olympic Park looking towards downtown. The hotel in the center is the Westin Peachtree Plaza. You can see the remnants of the tornado that passed through the city a couple of weeks ago. The hotel is 73 stories tall and features a rotating restaurant at the top with a spectacular view of the Atlanta skyline.

One more from Fernbank Natural History Museum. I thought this exhibit was just really neat. The young girl before this boy was creating really graceful poses. Then, this little boy took his turn, much less graceful, but neat all the same.

366 Pictures: #74 Bubbles

Photobucket

I've been trying to figure out how I wanted to photograph bubbles. One afternoon I spent a good half hour blowing bubbles myself and quickly trying to snap a picture. That didn't work out so well because they blew away and burst before I could snap a picture. Today, I really enjoyed watching these kids play with this enormous bubble maker! I especially love the look of concentration on the face of this little girl!

Cappuccino at the Chocolate Pink dessert bar. I don't normally drink cappuccino, but this place makes some of the best! Don't you just love their cup and saucer?!

This is a Giganotosaurus. I certainly would have hated to come face to face with this big guy! I am standing directly underneath its ribcage, so you're only seeing half of it!

366 Pictures: #284 Glass

Photobucket

I've been meaning to take a picture of this sun catcher for a couple of weeks. In the late afternoon, my office gets lots of sunshine coming through the window. The glass sun catcher really sparkles when the light hits it just right.

Photobucket

So, not the best picture. However, what you are looking at is a holograph of a spring! This is one of the exhibits at the Fernbank Natural History Museum's "Sensing Nature" area.

366 Pictures: #213 Running

Photobucket

This weekend I was a volunteer at the ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon. Last year, I was a participant! Sadly, this year I was unmotivated and did not get in training mode. However, I think the weekend might have been a little inspirational for me. Today, I helped hand out medals at the finish line. I was released just before the women's marathon winner made it to the finish line. This picture shows her excitement just before crossing the finish line. It fits the running theme very well, I think.

Is This Really Necessary? . . .

I really don't know how to describe this news story other than weird and creepy. I don't even want to hint as to what it's about. Just . . . click here and you'll understand why.

See what I mean? And seriously, who's worse? Is it the dude who was arrested or the guy who filmed the DVDs . . . three times!!!!

Just, ew!

Childhood Fears . . .

When I was a little girl there were probably many, many things I was afraid of. The old house I grew up in made the most awful creaking noises. My Mom said it was the house settling. I was positive it was ghosts. Another fear? Running out of gas. I have always, always feared running out of gas in random places. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm afraid of running out of gas period! I still have that fear! This is why Murphy is rarely, if ever, below 1/4 tank of gas.

The fear I remember most (besides the general ickiness of spiders and snakes and things that boys liked to play with) was insects coming up from the toilet. *shudders* I still think about it!

My fear centered around spiders and bugs that I would kill and then flush down the toilet. I just knew whatever bug I'd flushed was mutating down in the sewer and when the time was right (when I was using the bathroom, of course) it would crawl up and bite me! I kid you not, that was one of my fears as a child. And, this, this does not help!

Do you understand why? This confirms one my of greatest childhood fears! Hell, if rats can come up through the toilets why not any other sort of creature?! The only thing that comforts me, and I seriously mean the only thing, is that it happened in England. Sorry, Helen, you know I love you . . . but, seriously! Thank goodness the dateline did not say "Atlanta, Georgia", wait . . . let's make that anywhere in the South.

My ex would say this is why you should carefully trap the spider or bug and take it outside. No. I do not think so.

I shall now head for bed and try my damnedest not to think about this. I have a hard time believing I will be successful.

366 Pictures: #196 Fog

Photobucket

This isn't your typical take on fog. It isn't cloudy or smoky looking at all. This is fog that has frozen on the branches of trees! We had about 4 inches of snow up in the mountains this weekend. Saturday morning was so beautiful! It was snowing, but it was also very foggy. Normally, you can see several ridges along the mountains from our cabin. However, on Saturday you couldn't see any mountains! I think it looks like little pieces of glass.

366 Pictures: #204 Cow

Photobucket

At the beginning of the road leading up to our cabin is a small pasture with cows, horses, and chickens. I originally stopped to take a couple of pictures of a rooster walking about, but this cow was pretty interested in what I was doing. She just kept walking closer and closer.

366 Pictures: #266 Sweets

If you've never tried Vosges Haut-Chocolat get thee to a store that sells it or order some online. The company began in Chicago and they make gourmet truffles and chocolate bars. The neat thing is, the chocolate is infused with all sorts of different spices and flowers. For instance, did you ever think you'd see chicory or curry powder with chocolate? They also make a candy bar with wasabi, ginger, and sesame seeds. Mmmmmm . . . They are seriously so good!

This was a Christmas gift from my Mom. It's a Jammet Seignolles porcelain limoges. I think it's so beautiful and delicate. I almost used this picture for feminine, because I think it also fits.

Since most of our passports are pretty similar, I decided to use a picture of my passport cover. It's not any more exciting than my passport, but at least it's a prettier color.
